Salaries climb for CEOs

The CEOs at the nations largest companies saw their raises more than double in 2003.  [CNN, 7/04]

In 2003, the average CEO of a major company received $9.2 million in total compensation, according to The New York Times.  [AFL-CIO Executive PayWatch. www.aflcio.org]

In 2003, CEO pay was 301 times the pay of the average production worker.  [United for a Fair Economy]  In 1990, CEO pay was 85 times the pay of the average production worker.  [annual Business Week survey]
Wages flat for workers

Hourly wages over the last year rose 2.3 percent, short of the 3.0 percent inflation rate.  [Bureau of Labor Statistics, 7/04]

Ten million workers are at the federal minimum wage rate of $5.15 an hour.  Almost one quarter of all workers earn less than $9 an hour, which is the federal poverty line for a family of four.   Of the 1.3 million jobs created from June 2003 to June 2004, 60 percent are in industries paying less than $13.30 an hour.  [Economic Policy Institute, 8/25/04]
