President Hill Urges Open Internet, Broadband Expansion

January 17, 2014

International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers President Edwin D. Hill issued the following statement today.

We support the Jan. 14 decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit affirming the authority of the Federal Communications Commission to regulate broadband access.

At the same time the court’s decision to strike down the FCC’s net neutrality rules makes establishing a framework that protects a free and open Internet for all a top priority.

The IBEW stands ready to work with all stakeholders to promote transparency, foster competition and help protect equal Internet access for all.

We continue to call on all parties to make broadband expansion a center of telecommunications policy, bringing affordable high-speed Internet to every American household, business and community and create more good jobs.

We need a renewed push to build and upgrade our national high-speed networks, help close the digital divide and enshrine the principal of open and fair access to the Internet for consumers and businesses.
