Avaya Update #10

Monday, May 19

Avaya provided some answers to previous data requests on life insurance and supplemental benefits. They passed a proposal on retiree healthcare that would match givebacks proposed for active employees. If that was not enough, they also proposed that retirees pay any cost above the caps that are negotiated, and retirees with less than 20 years of service would pay 50 percent of the cost of medical coverage going forward. After that astounding proposal, Avaya presented a proposal on pensions that included a modest increase but also a plan that would further discriminate against employees in the care centers.

The operations subcommittee met this afternoon to discuss a number of articles and various letters in the back of the contract.

As we have stated before, Avaya daily passes retrogressive proposals across the table with no regard for the employees who keep the revenue coming in. If they continue with their incompetent and divisive stance, we have little chance of reaching an agreement by the contract deadline. I hope Avayas customers are aware of the results a lack of an agreement will have on their business.
