Write Your Members of Congress to Provide Railroad Workers
with Access to Paid Sick Leave

IBEW members employed in the railroad sector, like those in all of the other unions negotiating with the freight railroad carriers, have been met with an abject refusal to bargain for sick time. The Senate passed H. J. RES. 100 on December 1, 2022, to adopt the negotiated tentative agreement on the unions that were unable to ratify. However, H. Con. Res. 119, which sought to provide railroad workers with seven (7) days of paid sick leave, did not pass.

Members can use this letter campaign to write to their Members of Congress. They should enter their mailing address, which will populate a sample letter to both of their U.S. Senators and their U.S. Representative. The sample letter will either thank them for supporting paid sick leave, or encourage them to reconsider paid sick leave for railroad workers, depending on if they voted for or against H. Con. Res. 119.

The following materials which can be used to educate our membership on the railroad dispute:

  1. The IBEW Scorecard shows members if their Members of Congress voted for or against H. Con. Res. 119, as well as other important bills from this year.

  2. IBEW members can share these graphics on all social media channels to spread the word about the railroad dispute.

  3. IBEW members can read these FAQ's to educate them on how the railroad dispute impacts IBEW members.

  4. This letter from IP Stephenson was sent to all Senators prior to the vote on H. Con. Res. 119, urging them to support paid sick leave for railroad workers.
