History of Business Development
In 2011, at the IBEW’s 37th International Convention in Vancouver, Canada, the delegates passed Resolution #38 to establish a business development program. In 2012, three IBEW international representatives were assigned to assume the tasks of business development for the IBEW in the United States. In 2013, three more international representatives were assigned to assist with business development duties. In 2015, IBEW business development became a separate department with twelve international representatives in IBEW Vice-Presidential districts 2 through 11, a research specialist, and a department Director based in Washington, DC to assist and coordinate efforts across the brotherhood.
The IBEW Business Development program will establish, coordinate, and implement a well-defined, multi-level strategy designed to position IBEW members and signatory contractors as the “Right Choice” for the customer.
The IBEW is an organization of 750,000, with 350,000 professional electricians who have received extensive classroom and on the job instruction in all aspects of electrical construction and technology from our self-funded training programs. Our 400 local offices handle Human Relations for over 14,000 contractors in the US and Canada on projects ranging from single-family homes to power plants and everything in between.
