IBEW Supports AT&T/Time-Warner Merger

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers is calling for the swift approval of AT&T’s acquisition of Time-Warner, saying it is in the best interests of consumers and employees alike.

“This merger would serve as a boon to good jobs in the cable and telecommunication industry while providing more choices for the customer and incentivizing technological innovation,” said International President Lonnie R. Stephenson.

Stephenson says that an AT&T/Time-Warner combination would provide healthy competition to companies like Amazon, Netflix and Google – all which provide direct video, while raising the bar when it comes to competitive wages and family-friendly benefits in the telecommunication industry.

“AT&T is a leader in the industry when it comes to respecting the right of workers to come together at work and ensure good jobs for all,” he said. “And that’s a win for everyone – the employer, the employee and the customer.”

“At a time when promoting sustainable middle-class jobs and investment in high-tech infrastructure should be a national priorities, it is vital that the Justice Department and the current administration do the right thing and say yes to the AT&T/Time-Warner merger.”
