IBEW President Stephenson on the Release of the Department of Energy’s
Grid Reliability Study
International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers President Lonnie R. Stephenson issued the following statement regarding the Aug. 23 release of the Department of Energy’s Staff Report to the Secretary on Electricity Markets and Reliability:
“The Department of Energy’s report is a welcome first step in building the affordable, reliable and resilient electricity market this country deserves.
“The main problem the industry faces today is the failure of regulations to achieve that end. If we want electric power 24/7, 365 days a year, then the market should reward power generators who meet that goal.
“We hope Congress and the Trump administration act on these sensible and modest reform recommendations soon.”
The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) represents approximately 725,000 members who work in a wide variety of fields, including construction, utilities, manufacturing, telecommunications, broadcasting, railroads and government.
